The six red flags in an SEO course are: lessons with no date, no published refund policy, income or earnings claims, a countdown timer that resets when you reload, a price you cannot see without giving an email address, and a course that no longer exists but is still recommended in listicles written before it closed. Four well-known courses closed or were withdrawn between December 2024 and 2026 and are still recommended across the web.

The six flags, and how to check each in a minute

  1. No dates. Look for a last-updated date on the course page or a lesson list with dates. If there is none, assume the material predates AI Overviews (May 2024). Semrush, Ahrefs and HubSpot all rebuilt their courses for AI search in 2025 and 2026; a course that did not is teaching the old game.
  2. No refund policy. Search the terms page for the word refund. Tech SEO Pro's terms say all sales are final. The Blueprint Training's say non-refundable once access is granted, with 30 days' notice to cancel. Both are legitimate products; you just need to know before paying.
  3. Income claims. Any figure about what students earn. Compare seo.stream, which states that AI SEO Rainmakers makes no income claims and that member results are not typical. That is the honest form.
  4. Fake scarcity. Reload the page. If the timer resets, it is a sales device. A real mechanism looks different: Rainmakers publishes a price ladder that rises $10 for every 25 members, which you can check against the member count.
  5. Hidden price. Traffic Think Tank's price is only in the page's structured data, not shown as text. AI Ranking shows three different tier lists on three official pages. Neither is a scam; both make you work to know what you will pay.
  6. The ghost course. Still recommended, no longer for sale. See below.
